Pacific Gas & Electric is looking for potential buyers for its Hamilton Branch hydropower facilities, the company said in an April 1 news release.
The facilities include a small powerhouse and the Mountain Meadows Reservoir, as well as the 4.8 MW Hamilton Branch Powerhouse on Lake Almanor in Plumas County. PG&E expects to enter formal negotiations later this year.
The utility said it intends to maintain the facilities and that Mountain Meadows Reservoir will remain open for public recreation during the search. It acquired the Hamilton Branch facilities—which Red River Lumber constructed in 1921—in 1946.
PG&E, the largest investor-owned utility operator of hydroelectric power systems in the country, has for the past several years been selling smaller hydro plants it deems economically unviable. California PUC approval will be required for any transfer of ownership.
