Steve Kerns, BPA's director of grid modernization since 2018, will retire in April, Administrator Elliot Mainzer said during the agency's Feb. 4 Quarterly Business Review. Kerns has been employed by Bonneville for nearly 28 years, the first five as a contractor. In his early years at BPA, he was lead developer on the Hourly Operations and Scheduling Simulator model, a computer program that generates hourly simulations of the Federal Columbia River Power System. He was then assigned as team leader for model development and analysis in the operation planning section of the Power Business Line. Kerns was named supervisor of the short-term planning section in 2006, and later was manager for generation scheduling.
