Lower Monumental Dam 0617

Lower Monumental Dam on the lower Snake River near Kahlotus, Washington.

Several Northwest federal lawmakers have proposed measures intended to slow or block attempts to breach the four lower Snake River dams.

One of the measures is part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2022, passed June 6 by the U.S. House of Representatives. The legislation—which funds numerous U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects—would establish a task force to consider the effects of the four dams, and prepare a restoration plan that would consider "non-breaching alternatives for increasing fish passage and salmon recovery."
