The Huntington Beach City Council at a May 16 special meeting voted 4-3 to withdraw from the embattled Orange County Power Authority.
Huntington Beach Councilmember Casey McKeon, who also serves as an OCPA board member, said the community choice aggregator "has been a total disaster and doomed for failure" since it launched, citing a litany of problems that include "poor decision after poor decision, the worst of which was hiring a CEO with zero experience in the complex and volatile energy sector" (California Energy Markets No. 1731). He also said Huntington Beach has been stonewalled in its attempts to get information about energy contracts procured on its behalf by the CCA, which also serves the cities of Buena Park, Fullerton and Irvine.
