Wanapum Fish Ladder Working As Planned
It didn't take long for salmon and steelhead to show Grant PUD managers that their temporary fix at the Wanapum Dam fish ladder was working. Sixty-one fish were counted in the first two hours of operation on April 15, and a day later, the PUD announced that 31 spring Chinook and 102 steelhead had successfully passed the left bank fish ladder. ...more
Robust Spring Run Showing Up In Columbia
The upriver spring Chinook run at Bonneville Dam added up to more than 23,000 fish by April 22, running far ahead of counts over the past three years, and a bit ahead of the 10-year average. Only about four thousand fish had passed the dam by this time last year. That may be because the river is a little warmer this year, but not by much--.5 degrees Celsius. ...more

The latest update from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology say that all the models it surveys now point to El Niño conditions being reached in the equatorial Pacific, Six of the seven models say it could happen as early as July. ...more
NW Lawmakers Urge State To Act On Columbia River Treaty
Northwest lawmakers told the Obama administration last week to make a decision on whether to renegotiate the Columbia River Treaty by mid-2014, as called for in the regional recommendation submitted last December by BPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. ...more
Irrigators Ask Govs To Convene God Squad Over ESA Salmon Issues
The Columbia-Snake Irrigators Association sent an April 17 letter to the governors of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, asking them to convene the little-used God Squad to "halt excessive and unbridled litigation directed toward the region's electric power ratepayers." ...more
